Pop Shop I is a silkscreen print by Keith Haring from 1987, and the first print that composes the 4-piece Pop Shop I series. In the artwork, Haring presents three figures drawn in his iconic cartoon style. Two figures hold up a smaller, golden figure in the middle, who hangs on to the others by their arms. The artwork resembles two parents and their child. Children were a prominent figure in Haring’s artwork (see Radiant Baby), as well as his activism.

Haring’s pop shop series was born out of his Pop Shop project in New York City – a small shop that attracted collectors, kids, and anyone interested in Haring’s aesthetic. By starting the Pop Shop, Haring fulfilled his desire to offer his work at affordable prices to anyone who liked his art. Haring opened his first Pop Shop in Manhattan in 1986, and a second one in Tokyo the following year. At the shops, people could buy clothes, posters, original artwork, and other Haring-branded items. Both shops included black and white murals of Keith’s iconic doodles that covered the floor, walls, and ceiling.
