Pop Shop IV (Plate 1) is a silkscreen print by Keith Haring from 1989. In the piece, a flying angel is shown dancing with a human figure on the ground below. The flying angel was one of Haring’s well known symbols that he repeated throughout his artworks. The Flying Angel was published as a standalone print in Haring’s Icons series from 1990.

Haring’s pop shop series was born out of his Pop Shop project in New York City – a small shop that attracted collectors, kids, and anyone interested in Haring’s aesthetic. By starting the Pop Shop, Haring fulfilled his desire to offer his work at affordable prices to anyone who liked his art. Haring opened his first Pop Shop in Manhattan in 1986, and a second one in Tokyo the following year. At the shops, people could buy clothes, posters, original artwork, and other Haring-branded items. Both shops included black and white murals of Keith’s iconic doodles that covered the floor, walls, and ceiling.
