The Blueprint Drawings 2 is a signed screen print and a part of Keith Haring’s limited-edition series, The Blueprint Drawings, which comprises 33 pieces. This series, completed in 1990, was Haring’s final work, ensuring his legacy would endure beyond his passing. It features some of Haring’s most iconic symbols and compiles 17 of his most renowned drawings. The collection prominently showcases motifs like UFOs, barking dogs, dynamic figures, pointillism-inspired landscapes, and scenes that comment on themes of homosexuality and mortality.

Throughout his life, Haring was a fervent advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, using his own sexuality to amplify causes related to sexual rights. With the advent of the AIDS epidemic, Haring became an outspoken proponent for safe sex, a stance influenced by the personal loss of close friends to the epidemic. His art frequently mirrored his sentiments about this crisis, aiming to inform and educate about the disease that claimed many lives.

In The Blueprint Drawings 2, three imposing UFOs are depicted, menacing two figures attempting to escape from a shadowy abyss. Below, a lifeless figure is seen disintegrating into a mound. Contrary to the ominous portrayal in this piece, UFOs in Haring’s other works often symbolized positivity and empowerment. He skillfully interwove various symbols in his art to evoke deeper emotional responses and provide a richer understanding of the narratives he conveyed. In this artwork, the elongated figures are set against a grid-like backdrop, a style reminiscent of other Haring creations from the 1990s. This composition embodies Haring’s signature pop aesthetic, characterized by his minimalistic bold lines and a vivid emphasis on the dynamism and vitality inherent in his pieces.
